Planalytics January Seasonal Outlook for Agriculture comes at a critical time for traders, marketers and other agribusiness professionals. Dryness and drought across the central US is a continuing concern for winter wheat production while La Nina conditions affecting soybean and corn crops in Brazil and Argentina as harvest approaches are taking a toll there as well.

Join Planalytics AgriBusiness Insights team as we look at how weather is shaping up across the Americas and its potential impact on yields and supply. We are also pleased to welcome Sterling Smith, Director of Agricultural Research at Sompo International to provide color on USDA’s January WASDE report, market fundamentals, price movers and forecasts.

Speakers will include: 

  • Sterling Smith, Director of Agricultural Research, AgriSompo North America
    A veteran of the industry, Sterling Smith is well known across North America and Europe and a regular contributor on Bloomberg, CNBC and Reuters. Prior to joining AgriSompo North America, Sterling’s career has taken stints at Bloomberg where he led the Agricultural product, Citi, as head of Agricultural Research, CHS and as an introducing broker for various firms at CBOT.
  • Jeff Doran, Director, Specialized Support and Services, Planalytics, Inc.
    Jeffrey (Jeff) Doran has more than 30 years of experience as a meteorologist, helping organizations effectively incorporate and utilize weather analytics and insights in their planning decisions. Prior to joining Planalytics in 1999 Jeff served as a U.S. Air Force Captain and earned both a B.S. and M.S. in Meteorology from Penn State University. In his current role at Planalytics, Jeff supports clients in the Agriculture, Insurance, Financial and Retail sectors manage weather’s impact on their bottom lines.
