Labor Day Weekend Outlook From Planalytics
Summer Works Overtime in the East, Clocks Out in the West Leading Up to Labor Day
A Changing Weather Pattern Creates New Opportunities Across the Retail Landscape
Labor Day falls on Monday, September 7th, and represents the unofficial end to the summer season. As consumers enjoy the final days of summer, businesses look forward to Labor Day Weekend as the ideal time to move through summer markdowns and sell early fall merchandise.

Leading up to Labor Day weekend (August 30 – September 3), hot temperatures across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic will boost demand for late-summer essentials, including ice, cold beverages, and suncare. Cooler conditions across the West should support seasonal apparel and back-to-school demand.
Higher rain chances across the West and Northeast could temper retail foot traffic, while mostly dry conditions across the South Central and Southeast should support outdoor activity and holiday-related spending.
Heading into Labor Day weekend, September 4-7, cooler temperatures are expected to persist across the western U.S., while much of the Midwest and South remains hot. The Northeast will also trend cooler than normal, particularly across the northern states. Localized rain and thunderstorms in the West, Midwest, and Northeast could disrupt travel, outdoor events, and retail foot traffic. Meanwhile, drier conditions across the South Central and Southeast regions should support stronger outdoor activity and holiday spending.

Our neighbors to the north will celebrate Labour Day on Monday, September 7. Temperatures will be split, with cooler conditions in the West and warmer weather in the East early in the week. However, eastern markets will transition to below-normal temperatures by the end of the weekend. The western and central regions will see chances for showers through the early to middle part of the week, with rain expected to reach the eastern provinces over the weekend.
