Strongest Surge of Cold Air This Season Across the Midwest, South, and East
Pre-Black Friday Opportunity for Seasonal Merchandise
Retailers across much of the eastern U.S. will receive a gift from Mother Nature this weekend as consumers gear up for the Thanksgiving holiday and Black Friday shopping weekend. Beginning on Saturday, colder conditions to both last year and normal will encompass the Midwest and Deep South. Locations including Chicago, Minneapolis, and Cincinnati are expected to see freezing temperatures. The cold air moves east on Sunday providing strong opportunity for seasonal purchasing after what has been a relatively warm fall season. Along with the colder temperatures, anticipate increased potential for storms, which could include wintry weather for some.
With many Midwestern markets expecting their coldest temperatures this season, consumers will look to add items such as sweaters, outerwear, and winter accessories to their baskets. The cold will launch consumers into a winter mindset just days before the biggest shopping weekend of the year.
Out West, look for warmer temperatures to limit seasonal purchasing, although drier conditions will support foot traffic.
